Privacy Policy

Knack (formerly Love Wizard) is provided by Open Sesame Education.

Knack (hereinafter referred to as "Knack", "we", "us", or "our"), is a mobile application designed to provide users with personalized dating advice using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Users can ask dating-related questions, and our AI service generates tailored responses based on the user's input. In order to provide the most accurate and helpful advice, Knack collects certain information about its users, including age, gender, sexual orientation, dating goals, and any additional input provided by the user.

Our Commitment to Privacy

At Knack, we recognize the importance of privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information of our users. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we collect, how we use and protect that information, and your rights regarding your personal data.

1. Information We Collect

When you use Knack, we collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information: your email address. You sign in with a one-time code we email to you. On Android, you can also sign in with Google. If you use Google, Google tells us the email address of your Google account; we never receive your Google password.
  • Personal Information: This includes information that you voluntarily provide to us, such as your age, gender, sexual orientation, dating goals, and any additional input you provide when asking questions or seeking advice.
  • Conversations and Screenshots: the questions you ask, the screenshots of conversations you choose to scan, the text we read from them, and the replies the app writes for you.
  • Chat Backup: a copy of your chats is stored on our servers under your account, so that they come back when you reinstall the app or sign in on another phone. The backup holds the text of your chats, the app's replies, the notes the app keeps about the people you talk to, the small profile photos cropped from your screenshots, and any practice scenes you wrote. It does not include the full screenshots. Each new backup replaces the previous one.
  • Response Reports: when you choose Report response, we receive the selected AI response, the reason you choose, your account identifier, and a question identifier when available. We store this report for review of the reported response.
  • Purchases: records of the subscriptions you buy through Google Play or the App Store, which we use to give you what you paid for. In app versions that use RevenueCat, RevenueCat processes a pseudonymous account identifier that we can link to your Knack account, store receipts and transaction identifiers, product identifiers, subscription dates and status, prices and currency, and technical information such as device type, operating system and IP address. We use this service to validate purchases, restore access, manage subscription status and understand subscription activity. We do not send your account email, dating profile answers, conversations or screenshots to RevenueCat. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
  • Device and Usage Information: We may automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with our app, such as your device model, operating system, IP address, and app usage data (e.g., the frequency and duration of your sessions).
  • Advertising: the current version of the app does not show ads, does not use your device's advertising identifier, and does not include advertising or ad-tracking services. Earlier versions show ads served by Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising identifier to choose and measure them under Google's own policies; updating the app stops this.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide you with personalized dating advice based on your input and preferences
  • Improve the functionality and performance of our app, including refining our AI algorithms
  • Conduct research and analysis to better understand our user base and their needs
  • Send you marketing communications, if you have opted in to receive them
  • Review responses you report and the reason you select
  • Comply with legal requirements and protect our legal rights

3. Sharing of Your Information

We may share your information with third parties in the following circumstances:

  • AI Providers: after you allow AI data sharing in the app, the questions and screenshots you submit, relevant earlier conversation, practice scenarios and messages, and your profile answers (age group, gender, sexual orientation, and dating goals) are sent through our backend to OpenAI to read screenshots and generate personalized responses. Your account email is used for account access and is not included in AI prompts unless you include it in the content you submit.
  • Service Providers: We may engage third-party service providers to perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting and data storage. These providers may have access to your personal information, but only to the extent necessary to perform their services.
  • Google and Apple: if you sign in with Google, Google confirms your email address to us. Purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store under their own privacy policies.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or other business transaction, we may transfer your personal information to the new owner or partner.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in response to a legal process, such as a subpoena or court order.

4. Data Security

We take the security of your personal information seriously and have implemented appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, or destruction. However, please be aware that no security measures are perfect, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to or restrict our processing of it. To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information provided in the "Contact Us" section below.

AI data sharing. The app asks for your permission before the first screenshot scan or AI request. You can decline and still view saved chats. You can withdraw your permission in Profile → AI data sharing. Withdrawal prevents future AI requests until you allow sharing again; it does not delete content already sent or the chat backup stored under your account. Use account deletion to remove the account data held by us. OpenAI processes information under its privacy policy and applicable service terms.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Profile → Delete my account, or on the web at our account-deletion page, without the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your account and profile answers, your chat backup, the questions you asked and the answers you received, your response reports, your coin history, and your sign-in records. Records of store purchases are kept, because Google and Apple bill against them. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in Google Play or the App Store.

How long we keep your data. We keep your data for as long as you have an account. Logging out removes your chats from your phone but keeps the backup on our servers, so they come back when you sign in again. Deleting your account removes it as described above.

6. Third-Party Services and Links

Our app may contain links to third-party websites or services. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with any personal information.

7. Children's Privacy

Knack is intended for adults aged 18 or older, or the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction if greater, as stated in our Terms of Use. It is not intended for children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete that information from our records.

8. International Data Transfers

If you are located outside the United States, please be aware that your personal information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where our servers are located. By using Knack, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside of your country of residence, which may have different data protection laws than in your jurisdiction.

9. Changes to Our Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or to comply with legal requirements. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on our app and indicating the date of the most recent revision. Your continued use of Knack following these changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
